IMMIGRATION IN THE GILDED AGE

Immigration played a big role in the Gilded Age, not only contributing to the huge economic boom with their labor, but also allowed a lot of acculturation to happen. This section also can lead into the fifth exhibit, “Racial Literacy and Justice”, as the attempt at integration of immigrants and other races/cultures revealed many societal stigmas that were present and the ongoing issue of racial oppression in America.

PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH AND GERMANS- CHLOE
Author’s statement: My project is sort of light-hearted in that I’m focusing on super light topics lol. I just did some videos, the first on immigration to the states as a German immigrant during the Gilded Age, then the differences between Pennsylvania Dutch culture and German culture, and my personal favorite, a dictation on modern Pennsylvania Dutch and traditions and how they are seen in my beautiful hometown to this day.

This story was derived from multiple true accounts and primary sources, which provides an accurate and realistic representation of what it’s like to go through Ellis Island.
